Open Water Diver

poolIf you’ve always wondered what lies beneath the surface, now’s the time to find out. Start the journey of a lifetime with the PADI Open Water Diver course. It will change you forever.

In the PADI Open Water Diver course, your PADI Instructor takes you through the basics of learning how to scuba dive. You start in a pool or pool-like conditions and progress to the open water (ocean, lake, quarry, etc.) getting the background knowledge along the way.

At your own pace, you can complete the knowledge development portion of the PADI Open Water Diver course online with PADI eLearning.

Earning your PADI Open Water Diver certification is just the beginning. As a certified diver, fabulous dive destinations, exciting people, unparalleled adventure and uncommon tranquility await you. And, as you continue your adventure and gain experience through higher training levels, your opportunities expand.

Number of Dives: Five Confined Water Dives and Four Open Water Dives

Knowledge Development: Five sessions

Prerequisites: 10 for Junior Open Water Diver and 15 for Open Water Diver. Good health, reasonable fitness and comfort in the water.

Materials You’ll Need: PADI Open Water Crew-Pak, PADI Open Water Video or DVD, Log Book.

Equipment you’ll use during the course includes: mask, fins, snorkel, tank, regulator, buoyancy compensator, submersible pressure gauge and exposure protection as required by the local environment.

Becoming a diver opens a door to a whole new world. Open yours and step through.

Our training sessions are held every Tuesday night. We cover all the theory parts in the shop from 6pm-7.30pm. We then head over to the Pool at the Ridings High School in Winterbourne.

The course includes your own manual, which has 5 sections, we ask you to complete all the knowledge reviews prior to each session. We aim for at least 5 sessions in the pool before we head of to the coast for the 4 openwater dives. The course is designed to make you confident with your ability in how to look after yourself and your buddy.

The openwater weekends are normally at either Babbacombe or Brixham in Devon. We dive off the beach to a maximum depth of 12m. Check out the webcam links to the beaches.

The course fee is only £350, this includes all your tuition, your manual and all the equipment. The only extra cost is the accommodation for the weekend, plus your food and drink. Minimum age 10 for junior openwater diver with a maximum depth of 12m once qualified.

In order to enjoy your introduction into the underwater world you need to be comfortable in the water and able to swim 200m. We can also offer private swimming instruction if you feel you need a little help.

We are able to offer exclusive courses with a view to introducing more than just the openwater course, taylored to UK diving. This would include an introduction into drysuit diving, additional navigation and peak performance buoyancy and boat diving. You would complete a minimum of 12 dives by the end of the course, the cost is only £750.
